Join us on the evening of Saturday, June 30th, to commemorate this historic birthday and celebrate our exciting future. For the first time since the original show of paintings in the winter of 1977, the entire Study Collection will be on display.

This year the NAC is also kicking off the Nemeth Lecture Series. Visitors to the Art Center will now not only see the incredible artwork displayed, but they will be encouraged to attend free lectures, workshops, and artist talks. Beginning in June, the Nemeth will host multiple events every month that will invite the public to participate in a more lively and active dialogue about the arts.

Here at the Nemeth, we’re packing up our winter coats and getting ready for spring! There are so many exciting things in the works for our 2012 season, and we can’t wait until the Art Center opens again in May. In addition to a rotating exhibit of paintings curated from the Gabor and Edith Nemeth Study Collection, this summer visitors will see a wide variety of regional and national contemporary art, in addition to local favorites like the High School Art Show.

We’ve been busy this winter though. Above you can see Board Member Andrew Thomason teaching a Get Smart with Art class to a local elementary school. For more information on this program, click the “Events & Exhibits” tab.

I would like to thank the Board of Directors for giving me this opportunity to lead such a special institution. I would also like to thank the previous director, Kelly Gabriel, for doing an amazing job and for making my transition as easy as possible. I greatly look forward to my time here at the Nemeth Art Center: to the friends I have already started to make and also to the amazing new art I will have the honor of bringing to Park Rapids.

The Nemeth Art Center in Park Rapids, MN is seeking applicants for the position of Director. This is a part-time position requiring some weekend and evening hours in addition to some weekdays. The ideal candidate will be professional, well-spoken, enthusiastic, and connected to the arts community. Please send a resume to Nemeth Art Center, PO Box 328, Park Rapids , MN 56470. Additional Information:

The Director will work the following hours:
•16 hours/week (from home) in the winter season when the Art Center is closed, completing administrative tasks, applying for grants, and scheduling the upcoming summer’s exhibits.

•22.5 hours/week during the summer when the Art Center is open (May-September), Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays, 9:30 AM-5 pm. (Center is open to the public 10:30-4:30 on those days)

•Additional hours, when necessary and pre-approved by the Board of Directors, will be paid at an hourly rate in addition to the regular salary.

Duties include (but are not limited to) the following listing. Some duties may be delegated to Board members or volunteers:

•Reporting: Prepares and presents Director’s Report for each Board meeting
Emails or calls Board Chair when significant issues arise. Board Chair will then communicate with Board members

•Events and Exhibits: Procuring and scheduling exhibits
Hanging and taking down exhibits (with help from volunteers, etc.)

•Membership: Creates and mails membership materials (brochures, renewal letters, etc)
Maintains membership records

•Marketing: Creates a web presence for the museum (website, Facebook page, etc.)
Online Newsletter (4/year minimum)

•Museum Maintenance: Ensures that the space is cleaned and maintained

•Guest Relations: Greets visitors and offers information

•Budget: Prepares annual budget with Treasurer

•Grant Writing: Researches available grants and applies for them

•Fundraising Exhibits: Off-site exhibits that generate income for the Museum

Salary: Dependent upon Qualifications

Artist Statement

My creative works are constantly morphing as a need to
express humanity and challenge myself.
The constant that stays within my work is that it must display some
form of childlike/animalistic aesthetic quality.  The quality is important to express my idea
that at the end of the day we are not perfect but we are human.  A focus on being there before adjusting to
what the future expects a person to be.-Cameron Peterson

Bio

Cameron Peterson was born 21 April 1977 in Langdon, North
Dakota.  He obtained a BFA from Minnesota
State University Moorhead with a concentration in printmaking.  His work has been exhibited at Upfront
Gallery(2008), Rourke Art Gallery Museum(2007 & 2011), Spirit Room(2006)
and Creative Arts Studio(2005).  He
participated in 100 Abstract at MSUM(2010).
Membership Editions he has printed are Smoky Hill River Festival(2006)
and Rourke Art Gallery Museum(2002-2011).

Cameron currently lives in Fargo with his fiancee Annette
(Nettie) DuBord and their cat Zippy.  He
works for The Rourke Art Gallery Museum and volunteers teaching classes at the
Creative Arts Studio.  He enjoys the
atmosphere of Fargo and likes to cross country ski when he has a chance.

Yes, we too, get ready for the winter to come here at the Nemeth Art Center.  We look forward to some off-season activities and of course planning for a fantastic season when we open again in May.

The line-up for next year is exciting.  It is almost complete and will be shared with you soon.

It has been a wonderful year of growth and adventure for us.  Thanks to each of you for helping us reach over 2000 guests, doubling our attendance from last year.

 We have a poetry reading from our Ekphrastic Poetry Workshop attendants at 2:30 Saturday in the Great Gallery.  Some students from Nevis School and Park Rapids School may also join us for readings from their classes.  I’ve seen a few of the poems and all I can say is that people’s talent  amazes me!

Also, we will have the pleasure of  a sneak peek at Kayleen Horsma’s beautiful oil paintings.  She will be exhibiting with us next season and is bringing a few pieces in for the weekend.

I find that same gift, the gift of pause, given by the exhibits adorning the galleries. It is impossible to rush past such beauty, such stories.

The ankle bracelets from the Nigerian Collection for example; who wore them in ceremonial dance? Who surrounded the dancer and listened to their surprisingly resonant tones? Their hearts must have beat strongly, their muscles working through the movement of dance.

Melanie’s Prayer Pictures slow my pace as well. Her passion and soul come through her works to enliven our emotions, to ask us to see past our every day thoughts. Pausing is necessary.

The last of the Master Paintings are arranged in The Great Gallery for this final month of our open season. They too, ask me to pause. What have these paintings been witness to? What was going on in the daily lives of the artists who laid their brush against the canvas?

There are pictures of celebrations, gatherings, acts of domesticity, noblemen and commoners.  Who were these people who are not so different from who we are? The same things that are important to us, were important to them. It makes me pause.

My wish for each of you this autumn season, is that you pause; pause to see the beauty.
