CLASS DESCRIPTION
Local weaver and artist, Bruce Engebretson, along with his neighbors and collaborators Ross Karvonen, Connie Kovala, and Winona LaDuke are guiding students through the process of Baltic-style belt weaving for the Nemeth Art Center's February youth workshop.
Participants can expect to learn the basic technique of back strap weaving, and make a length of tape to take home with them, which could be finished and used in a number of ways around the home.

ARTIST / INSTRUCTOR BIO
Bruce Engebretson has the good fortune to have a wealth of knowledge regarding hand spinning and weaving transmitted to him from people who themselves learned in a family or ethnic tradition. Some of the people he has in turn shared this knowledge with will be there to assist during the workshop.
The project he is guiding was taught to him by a lady from Latvia, Inara Porietis, who learned it as a child in the displaced persons camp they were sheltered in during World War II.
