Artist Statement

I believe these Doll sculptures animate the human spirit. Animation as defined by the dictionary: the state of being full of life or vigor; (chiefly archaic) the state of being alive.

We live in an imperfect, always changing, complicated world. I have turned my thoughts to animation; a form that can give welcome relief to the stresses of life. Animation can be dark or satirical, even macabre. It is also ingenious, whimsical, light and joyful. Animation is always entertaining. In that I need to create, it is better for me and I think it commands a reaction from the audience.

I haunt antique shops, flea markets and auctions, hunting for old parts that otherwise might never be used again, giving them new life in my Doll sculptures. I think and rethink. I explore, experiment, and play (endlessly sometimes) until the desired product is successful to me. This process often holds unpredictable and serendipitous results. Epiphany strikes sometimes!
