Pao Houa Her

May 4 - June 25, 2023

Pao Houa Her was born, in her own words, in the northern jungles of Laos. She fled Laos with her family when she was a baby, crossed the Mekong on her mother’s back, was fed opium to keep from crying, lived in the refugee camps in Thailand and landed in America in the mid 1980s. The artist received her BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and her MFA from Yale University, and is an assistant professor in Photography and Moving Images at the University of Minnesota. In 2022, her work was included in the Whitney Biennial, and in 2023, she was named a Guggenheim fellow.
